THE WAY I FLOW: SACRAL MONDAY

WHY MONDAY IS FOR FLUIDITY, NOT FRICTION

In the traditional corporate world, Mondays are often approached with a “grind” mentality-a force pushed into the work week. At The Lady H Way, we reject the friction. We align Monday with the Sacral Chakra, the center of our emotional intelligence, creativity, pleasure and sensuality. Solar Plexus Sunday was about the sun and I told you all about The Way I Shine so we can all shine together. But Monday, ruled by the moon, is all about the tide. By stepping into The Way I Flow, we learn to stop fighting the current of the work week and start riding it instead. This is the day we prioritize our creative spark and allow our emotions to move through us like water, rather than getting stuck in the dam of to-do lists.

WHAT IS THE SACRAL CHAKRA?

The Sacral Chakra, or Svadhisthana in Sanskrit, is the second chakra and it’s situated in the pelvic region. This energy center is associated with creativity, emotions, femininity, sexuality and the element of water.

Water is so powerful because it is adaptable; it seamlessly takes the shape of whatever vessel it is in, yet it is strong enough to carve through stone over time. When your Sacral energy is balanced, you feel “in the flow” and effortlessly birth new ideas into the world. You handle changes at work with grace, your relationships feel harmonious and you feel a deep sense of fluidity within your life. When your Sacral energy is imbalanced, however, you may experience lower back pain, a lack of passion, fear of change or even a general sense of physical stiffness.

HOW TO ACTIVATE YOUR SACRAL CHAKRA?

When I’m feeling a creative block, there are a number of things I do to try and unblock it. Since the Sacral Chakra is physically housed in the pelvis, it’s helpful to incorporate movements that release tension in the hips in your exercise routine. The pigeon pose is one of the best poses you can do to release built up emotion and stress in your hip flexors.

If yoga isn’t your style, try moving your hips instead and start dancing (don’t stop get it, get it)! I love working on my glutes on this day too because it relaxes the hip flexors and helps to stabilize the pelvis. Plus, since Monday has a lot of female energy, I figure why not because what woman doesn’t want a nice butt?
If you have access to a swimming pool, or better yet, you have a swimming pool in your own backyard, Monday is the perfect day to take advantage.

Make sure your hydration is in alignment on this day too (well, everyday but especially on Mondays). Try infusing it with some orange slices and maybe even add some ginger to bridge the gap between Sunday’s fire and Monday’s water. The best foods to eat on this day are anything orange. Eating fruits, veggies and roots with high levels of beta-carotene support reproductive health and helps to make your skin “glow”. Orange bell peppers, carrots, sweet potatoes, peaches and obviously oranges are great ways to boost your Sacral chakra energy. Pair these exercises and foods with some orange apparel and you should start feeling more creative in no time.
